carte blanche is thrilled to announce the 2019 3Macs carte blanche Prize Shortlist, as selected by juror and 2017 CBC Poetry Prize winner Alessandra Naccarato. The shortlisted writers are Alexei Perry Cox (poetry), Maria Camila Arias (fiction), and Eliza Robertson (fiction)!
The winner will be announced at the Quebec Writers’ Federation’s Award Gala on November 5, 2019 and will receive a cash prize and a handcrafted trophy by Glen LeMesurier.

Juror for the 2019 3Macs carte blanche Prize
Alessandra Naccarato is the recipient of the 2015 RBC Bronwen Wallace Award for Emerging Writers and the winner of the 2017 CBC Poetry Prize. Currently based in Toronto, she holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, and has toured nationally and internationally as a spoken word artist. Her debut poetry collection, Re-Origin of Species (Book*hug, 2019) combines personal narrative and natural study to tell a story of adaptation and evolution.
Alexei Perry Cox is the author of the poetry collection Under Her, the forthcoming novel Autoportrait, Suicide and short fiction collection To Utter a Life’s Sentence. Her work has appeared in publications such as The Puritan, CV2, Hart House Review, Vallum, Makhzin / مخزن, Matrix, Cosmonauts Avenue, Rusted Radishes, Journal Safar (جورنال سفر) The Beijinger, Lemonhound and elsewhere. She is finishing a manuscript entitled Finding Places to Make Places and parenting two wondrous young ones named Isla and Ilham.
Maria Camila Arias is a Colombian/Canadian screenwriter who wrote Birds of Passage, opening film at Cannes Director’s Fortnight in 2018 and shortlisted at the 91st Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category. She has written several other screenplays and fiction drama series, she teaches and also works as a story editor for film and TV.
Eliza Robertson’s debut story collection, Wallflowers, was shortlisted for the East Anglia Book Award and selected as a New York Times Editor’s Choice. Her first novel Demi-Gods was a Globe & Mail book of the year and winner of the QWF Paragraphe Hugh MacLennan Prize. She received the Man Booker Scholarship and Curtis Brown Prize at the University of East Anglia, where she completed her MA and PhD. She lives in Montreal. Author photo credit: Jules Worsham.
