Lesley Trites, Larissa Andrusyshyn and André Simoneau are the finalists for the 2016 3Macs carte blanche Prize

We’re delighted to share with you the names of the three finalists of the 2016 3Macs carte blanche Prize, as selected by juror, Nick Mount, who is the author of When Canadian Literature Moved to New York and is a professor of English at the University of Toronto. The big winner will be announced at the Quebec Writers’ Federation Gala on November 22 and will lay their hands on a cash prize and a most amazing trophy–originally handcrafted by Glen LeMesurier.

Larissa Andrusyshyn is nominated for her poem, “The Radium Girls,” published in Issue 26. Andrusyshyn’s poems have been longlisted for the CBC Poetry Prize and shortlisted for Arc Magazine’s Poem of the Year and the Malahat Review’s Open Season Award. Her first collection, Mammoth (DC Books) was shortlisted for the QWF First Book Prize and the Kobzar Literary Award. Her second poetry collection Proof (DC Books) was published last spring. Larissa teaches creative writing to at-risk youth in Montreal.

André Simoneau is nominated for the short story, “Bridges We Build,” published in Issue 26. Simoneau is a freelance writer, actor, filmmaker and musician from the Eastern Townships of Quebec. Trained as a stage actor at Dawson College, he has worked consistently in theatre, film and television for over ten years, most recently as director and co-producer of the five-part web-series Blank Paige. 

Lesley Trites is nominated for her story, “Rabbits with Red Eyes,” published in Issue 28. Trites is a Montreal-based fiction and freelance writer and the author of a book of poetry, echoic mimic (Invisible Publishing). Her work has recently appeared in the Los Angeles Review of Books, Maisonneuve, AFAR, The Life Sentence, and the anthology Salut King Kong: New English Writing from Quebec.
