carte blanche is looking for a new editor

carte blanche, founded in 2004, is the official online magazine of the Quebec Writers’ Federation. We are celebrating over 12 years of promoting poetry, creative nonfiction, comics, translation, photography, fiction, and literary commentary from Quebec, Canada, and around the world.

OwlWith ongoing support from the Canada Council of the Arts and private donations, carte blanche is able to pay all of its contributors, and maintains a dynamic and unique niche online. A new editor will help steer the magazine forward as we anticipate another decade of success!

The successful candidate would support the editorial team in all aspects of production and promotion of three issues per year (winter, spring/summer and fall) and regular blog updates. She/he would shape the creative direction of the magazine, nurture a growing cohort of contributors, and seek new opportunities that position the magazine to be a useful and relevant voice in the literary and artistic landscape. Because we are based in Montreal and publish French texts in translation, knowledge of both English and French is an asset for this position. Excellent copy editing skills are key. Above all, we seek a passionate fan of literature and art — someone who has a love for narrative in their DNA.

The editor position receives a modest annual stipend. This is an ideal position for any individual not depending on it for a full-time living, but nevertheless committed to contributing to and being part of a flourishing community online.

Interested candidates should send a brief summary of their qualifications and reasons for applying to editors@carte-blanche.org before April 1, 2017.
