Call for Applications: Publicist

carte blanche, founded in 2004, is the official online magazine of the Quebec Writers’ Federation. We are celebrating over 13 years of promoting poetry, creative nonfiction, comics, translation, photography, fiction, and literary commentary from Quebec, Canada, and around the world. With ongoing support from the Canada Council of the Arts and private donations, carte blanche is able to pay all of its contributors, and maintains a dynamic and unique niche online.

Currently, carte blanche is seeking an enthusiastic member to join the Montreal-based editorial team:

Publicist — the publicist would be in charge of social media and promotion of magazine issues, blog posts, events, and more. Demonstrated strategies for Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook promotion required. The successful candidate will also support the Managing Editor with communication, and the organization and building of each of the annual three issues of carte blanche. Knowledge of WordPress, elementary coding, Photoshop, and Submittable is essential.

The position receives a modest annual stipend. It is an ideal position for any individual not depending on it for a full-time living, but nevertheless committed to contributing to and being part of a flourishing community online.

Interested candidates should send a brief summary of their qualifications and reasons for applying to editors@carte-blanche.org before February 12, 2020. The positions’ duties will formally commence March 2020, or as soon as possible, with work on the Winter 2020 issue. Since carte blanche is a Montreal-based publication it is suggested but not a requirement for the candidate to reside in Montreal.

carte blanche, as affiliated with the QWF, actively seeks to maximize diversity in its staff, part-time employees, membership, and board of directors. We welcome applications from all qualified individuals, and encourage Indigenous persons, persons of colour, LGBTQ+ and gender-nonconforming persons, persons with disabilities, women, and members of any other marginalized group to self‐identify if they are comfortable doing so.
