Homecoming

I was supposed to go to the Sled Island music festival in Calgary that weekend, but the trip was cancelled because of flooding that Summer. I’d already booked off the days, so me and my girlfriend jumped on a bus and headed up to her hometown of Powell River, with my new digital point-and-shoot. I’d got the camera up there as a birthday present, so it was sort of a homecoming for both my girlfriend, and the camera, too. The overcast, west coast weather was a perfect backdrop for the journey.

Powell River is a coastal mill town in British Columbia, separated from the Lower Mainland by two separate ferry journeys. Its isolation lends Powell River a certain rustic loneliness. I could have showed you pictures of whales but that would be boring.
