New Managing Editor: Zoe Shaw!

zoe shawI am so excited to join carte blanche as the new managing editor. After reading previous profiles of incoming editors as inspiration to write mine, I am struck by the overwhelming talent and kindness of the people on the carte blanche masthead. It is an honour to be a part of the team that has for several years published some of my favourite emerging artists and writers.

I have a few years of practice at various types of editorial work on a miscellany of genres. I am also a writer of poetry and fiction occasionally, though my dog is usually my only audience (note: I have no hard feelings toward cats). Moreover, I am an avid attendee of launches and literary events—the reunions of friends and colleagues, the support demonstrated by an attentive audience, and the shared encounters of new work all contribute to evenings that leave me stepping out onto Montreal sidewalks with a giddiness that guides me home through rain and snow.

During my time as managing editor (beginning in Winter 2020), I will dedicate myself to helping to assemble the best of what carte blanche’s contributors and staff have to offer. My warmest thanks to Tess Liem for her guidance as we transition between managing editors. In addition, joining Greg Santos in the management of carte blanche will be an invaluable pleasure.

I can’t wait to work with all of you, whether you are a contributor, a reader, or on the masthead.

Looking forward,
Zoe
